COLLEGE ADMISSIONS TIPS (CAT)

Don't Panic

HELPFUL CAT TIPS

CAT #1 - Apply early to as many colleges as possible.

CAT #2 - Check your grammar and spelling before submitting your college and scholarship applications.  You can do this by copying and pasting your online answers into your word processor to check for grammar errors.

CAT #3 - Do not let cost deter you from applying to your most desirable schools.  Many colleges and universities including private schools have substantial financial resources to share with their applicants.  Your FAFSA application will help make that determination.

CAT #4 - We recommend students apply to 6-7 schools (2 schools outside of their financial budget, 2-3 schools within their financial budget and 1-2 safety-net schools that are a financial bargain).

CAT # 5: "Get to know your instructors so they can get to know you. One of the biggest mistakes college students make is getting to know everyone else on campus except for the people who have the power to fail them with a stroke of a pen. Instructors and their assistants are there to instruct, inform, and assist with difficult concepts. They are not there to baby sit or take role call. So get the most of your tuition dollars and get to know your instructors. You will be glad you did." Parent & Graduate of NCATSU

CAT # 6: "Chose your friends wisely and learn from others' mistakes.  College can be exciting and fun but it is also the time when many students get involved with those who are less interested in academic performance.  It may seem like heaven on earth with your new found freedom and lack of parental control.  Without realizing it, you can find yourself spending more time at the ball games and the tail gate parties than you do in class.  That is very common and typical of first year and immature students.  We at CollegeStuff.Net challenge you to raise the standard, aim high, climb the peak, and go for the goal.  We believe in you!"

CAT # 7: "Although you are in school and extremely busy with exams and extra curriculum activities, take the time to say thank you to those special and rare people in your life who contributed to your success. Remember their birthdays and those special holidays. It will warm your heart and melt theirs." CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT

CAT # 8 : "Manage your time well. Time is one aspect of life that you can not retrieve once it is gone. We all have 24 hours of it. You can blow it or you can make the most of it. The more you give it away the less valuable it will become. Increase the value of your time and you will be well rewarded in life." Parent & Graduate of SWCC
